Exciting Music Taster Day for children in care
A music taster day for children and young people supported by the Fostering & Adoption Service will take place at Brighton & Hove Music & Arts during August 2014.
Working with specialist music tutors and supported by members of the Intensive Placement Team (who are keen to share their considerable musical skills and passion!), young people will be able to experience playing guitar and singing, learn some grooves in the drum kit studio and begin to explore music technology by creating beats using iPads.
The Intensive Placement team is part of the Council’s Fostering Service and staff within this team supervise foster carers but also provide individual and group activities for children in care including a holiday activity programme that runs during each school holiday. Music taster days at BHMA have become a regular feature of the holiday activity programme and will continue to be offered during 2014-15.
Following the music taster day, children and young people will be encouraged to continue learning an instrument and/or to join the weekly band workshop sessions, which take place at BHMA and are led by Rhythmix. BHMA offer 100% subsidy to Looked After Children who wish to learn an instrument. For more information about music activities for children in care please contact Emma Collins emma.collins@brighton-hove.gov.uk
