Brighton & Hove Youth String Ensemble –  Isle of Wight Tour

This Award winning ensemble of 16 string players recently visited the Isle of Wight for their annual residential course.

An intensive rehearsal schedule led by conductor Andy Sherwood and BHMA violin teacher Christian Roberts-Lewis enabled the young musicians to tackle a challenging programme of repertoire from around the world ranging from Icelandic folk songs to Baroque classics such as Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba.

A particular highlight was the collaboration with internationally renowned guitarist Richard Durrant who performed a Vivaldi Lute concerto along with his own latin amercian influenced composition Girl at the Airport - composed whilst Richard was performing in Paraguay.

Following two concerts on the Isle of Wight, the ensemble returned to perform a concert of quality at St Mary de Haura Church in Shoreham-by-Sea.

BYOSE is an extremely talented group of young musicians – why not hear them play in their last concert of their season at Unitarian Church, New Road in Brighton on Sunday 28 June at 7.30pm.
