EVENT: Over 80 body percussionists to perform
The Schools Christmas Concert this year will be joined by over 80 body percussionists. In response to the BBC’s Ten Pieces, an initiative which aims to inspire Primary aged children to listen to classical music, Mike Johnson, Instrumental Manager at BHMA, has composed a special piece for the occasion.
Following Anna Meredith’s composition Connect It, the Brighton & Hove Youth Percussion Ensemble (BHYPE) and children from 5 primary schools, will be taking part exploring different body percussion sounds including finger clicks, clapping and chest beating.
Balfour, Our Lady of Lourdes, Rudyard Kipling, St Luke’s and West Blatchington each worked at one of the parts which will come together to perform Bodywork in its first public performance on Monday 8 December.
BHYPE were delighted to have recently been chosen to perform at the Southbank Centre as part of the Metal Wood Skin festival which took place featuring world renowned percussionist Colin Currie.
After performing both inside and outside the Southbank Centre to an audience of over 500 people, the day culminated in watching an amazing performance of Colin Currie with a chamber group from the Netherlands.
